바비 대런을 youtube에서 찾아보니 몇 곡이 있어서 올려본다. As Long As We are Singing 은 되도록이면 영화를 보신 분들만 감상하시길... 바비 대런의 외모를 보니 케빈 스페이시와 정말 많이 닮은 것 같다.

'자이언트'의 제임스 딘을 보니 Suede의 Daddy's Speeding 이 생각나서 음악을 링크 해봤다. 처음 이 곡을 들었을 땐 몽환적인 느낌이 너무 좋아서 자주 듣던 음악이었는데 정말 오랫만에 다시 들어본 것 같다.

Dream Theater 의 새 앨범, Systematic Chaos

내 블로그 주소를 보면 알겠지만 나는 드림 씨어터를 무지 좋아한다. 그들의 음악을 들었을 때는 대학교 신입생 때였다. 지금과는 달리 그 때는 영화보다는 음악을 좋아했다. 하나씩 유명한 밴드들의 음악을 알아갈 때 그 때 기분은 정말 날아갈 것 같았다. 특히 우연히 들은 another day라는 곡에 반해 드림 씨어터라는 밴드를 알았을 때는 정말 기뻤다. 마치 우연히 황금을 찾았다는 느낌이 들 정도로 그들이 나에게 준 영향은 말로 다 할 수 없다.

그런 그들이 드디어 새 앨범을 내고 돌아 온다고 한다. 오늘에서야 그들의 앨범이 새로 나온다는 사실을 알아서 글을 쓴다. 미국에서는 6월 5일 발매 예정인 새 앨범의 제목은 'Systematic Chaos'라고 한다. 두 가지 버젼으로 앨범이 발매되는데 왼쪽의 자켓이 정규앨범, 그리고 오른쪽이 스페셜 에디션이다. 스페셜 에디션에는 DVD가 삽입되었는데 90분의 메이킹 다큐멘터리가 삽입되었다고 한다. 종전의 드림 씨어터 앨범들과는 달리 굉장히 사회비판적인 내용이 삽입되었을 것 같은 분위기가 든다. 게다가 개미의 습격을 연상시키는 그림은 호기심을 더해준다. 우리나라에서도 스페셜 버젼이 나올지는 모르겠지만 그들의 새 음악을 접할 수 있다는 사실 하나 만으로도 매우 기쁘다. 이번 새 앨범은 로드런너 레코드 사에서 처음 나오는데 유튜브에 마침 그들의 신곡 중 하나인 'The Dark Eternal Night'가 있어서 링크해 본다. 신곡은 최근 앨범들의 음을 그대로 이어가면서도 그들 특유의 연주는 살아있는 느낌이다. 굉장히 특별한 느낌은 들지 않지만 앨범 전체를 들어보고 평가해봐야 할 것 같다.

최근 드림 씨어터 멤버들의 사진. 라브리에는 수염만 길렀을 뿐인데 굉장히 달라 보인다. 그나저나 조단의 염소 수염(?)은 굉장히 쇼킹하다. 다른 밴드들이 저런 모습을 하면 그냥 그런가 보다 하는데 드림 씨어터 멤버가 저런 모습을 하니 좀 신기한 느낌이다.

영화 '로스트 하이웨이(Lost Highway)' 타이틀에 나오는 음악 - David Bowie, I'm Deranged

오늘 새벽에 잠이 안와 이리저리 뒤척거리다 아무 생각없이 휴대폰으로 FM 방송을 들었다. 여기저기 방송을 돌리다 mbc fm에서 영화음악이 나오길래 아무생각 없이 들었는데 영화 '로스트 하이웨이'의 타이틀 음악이 나오고 있었다. 아직 로스트 하이웨이는 보지 못했지만 이 영화의 ost는 정말 좋아하는데 그 중 가장 좋아하는 곡을 뽑으라면 타이틀 곡이자 마지막 크레딧 장면에 나오는 데이빗 보위의 'I'm Deranged', 그리고 나인 인치 네일스의 'Perfect Drug'을 뽑을 것이다. 'I'm Deranged'라는 곡이 좋은 이유는 확실하게 글로 표현하기 애매하기는 하지만 굳이 이유를 대자면 데이빗 보위의 흐느끼면서도 섹시하게 느껴지는 목소리와 함께 전자음악의 비트가 너무 좋아서 이 곡을 즐겨 듣는 것 같다. 새벽에 잠이 안와 뒤척거리던 차에 갑자기 이 음악이 나오니 반가우면서도 기뻤다. 덕분에 잠은 늦게 자서 하루 내내 정신을 못차리기는 했지만 좋은 음악을 새벽에 들으니 그것도 괜찮은 경험이었던 것 같다.

youtube에 마침 영화 앞부분이 있어서 링크해 본다. 타이틀을 본 건 오늘이 처음인데 굉장히 인상적이다. 마치 어두운 밤에 드라이브를 하듯이 화면이 진행되면서 출연배우와 타이틀, 그리고 그 외의 영화관련 인물들의 이름이 화면에 펄쳐지는 모습이 멋지다는 생각이 든다. 그러고 보니 데이빗 린치의 영화는 아직 하나도 보지 못했다. 워낙 난해하다고 악명높은 감독의 작품이어서 피하지 않았나 생각한다. 그러고 보니 '인랜드 엠파이어'라는 영화가 최근에 나왔던 것 같은데 만약 극장에 걸린다면 한 번 도전(?)해봐야 겠다.

EBS 음악기행 클래식의 타이틀 음악 'Classical Destinations'

EBS 프로그램 중 클래식 작곡가의 본고장인 도시를 찾아가면서 클래식의 역사를 설명하는 '음악기행 클래식'이라는 프로그램이 있다. 이 프로그램의 내용은 말할 것도 없이 훌륭하지만 무엇보다도 인상적이었던 건 바로 처음 시작할 때 나오는 배경음악이었다. 바이올린 선율이 참 아름다운 곡이어서 저 곡이 무슨 곡인지 알고 싶었다. 다행히 검색엔진을 찾아보니 이 프로그램의 원제가 'Classical Destinations'라는 걸 알았냈고 저 곡의 유래도 알게 되었다. 알고 보니 이 프로그램를 위해 만든 곡이라고 한다. 클래식에 대해 아무 것도 몰라서 나는 고전 클래식 음악 중 하나인 줄 알았는데 그게 아니었다. 이 프로그램의 외국 공식 사이트인 http://www.classicaldestinations.com 에 들어가보니 이 곡이 삽입된 영상을 볼 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 다운로드도 가능하도록 설정되어 있었다. 덕분에 그 곳에서 영상을 다운로드 받아서 블로그에 올려본다.

Valensia의 곡들

내가 Valensia를 알게 된 계기는 시완레코드라는 프로그래시브 락 전문 레코드 회사 덕분이었다. 지금은 어떻게 되었는지는 모르겠는데 예전에는 성시완 씨가 만든 이 시완레코드라는 회사에서 프로그래시브 락 앨범들을 발매했었다. 시완레코드에서 나온 프로그래시브 락 앨범들은 좋은 작품들이 많았는데 예를 들어 Klaatu 앨범이나 Latte E Miele, PFM, Quella Vecchia Locanda, Magna Carta 등의 좋은 앨범들이 있었다. 주로 6~70년대 프로그래시브 락 앨범들이 주로 발매되었는데 예외도 있었다. 그 중 하나가 바로 Valensia 였다. 발렌시아의 첫 앨범인 Valensia가 시완레코드에서 처음 발매되었는데 당시 Gaia를 듣고 감동해서 인터넷에서 앨범을 구매했었다. 네덜란드 출신인 발렌시아(물론 스페인 축구팀 발렌시아랑 아무 상관없다.) 의 음악이 좋았던 건 아무래도 그의 목소리였던 것 같다. 퀸의 프레디 머큐리를 연상케 하는 여성같은 목소리가 인상적이었는데 앨범 중 가장 좋아했던 곡은 Gaia였다. 중간에 코러스로 '나나나나' 하는 부분이 정말 좋아서 CD 플레이어에 넣고 그 곡만 계속 들었던 기억이 난다. YouTube에서 발렌시아의 뮤직비디오를 찾았는데 몇 년 전 그의 음악을 듣던 예전의 기억이 잠깐 나서 이렇게 글을 써본다.

 이번 007 시리즈 주제곡을 크리스 코넬이 부른줄은 몰랐다. 그래서 그런지 영화가 처음 시작할 때 그의 목소리를 들으니 신기하면서도 반가운 느낌이 들었다. 종전 007 주제곡은 여성 가수가 주로 불렀던 것 같은데 락 사운드에 크리스 코넬의 목소리라니! ㅎㅎ 오디오슬레이브를 좋아하는 나로서는 그저 고마울 따름이다. 크리스 코넬 최고~!
